<p><strong>Avance Biotechnologies</strong> is an agriculture &amp; biotechnology company founded by Mario Reyes Salinas and Juan Rencoret over 10 years ago, with the vision to incorporate products over the national and international markets, based on biological control mechanisms used and enriched with biotechnology.</p>
<p>The boom in global biological control has become one high-impact alternative beneficial to farmers and consumers, who see in it an effective solution to their problems caused by insects, fungi, bacteria and food security, gradually moving the massive use of chemical pesticides.</p>
<p>This technology is part of the new bio-sustainable solutions and support needed by society. In the early &#8217;90s, during the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), it was decided by consensus the definition of <em>biotechnology</em> under the following premise:</p>
<p><em>“Biotechnology is any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms or derivatives to make or modify products or processes for specific uses</em><em>.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>These words describe the foundation of all biotechnology development, which are supported by mechanisms and biological principles. To achieve this, is necessary to spend time observing and understanding biological processes, a work done by scientists who devote their time and expertise to incorporate these mechanisms into conventional production processes. The contribution of this work is translated into the following points:</p>
<ul>
<li> Added value to products.</li>
<li> Clean technologies that are compatible with human health and natural ecosystems.</li>
<li>Animal and plant organisms with special features that enhance productivity.</li>
<li> Products that improve quality of life in patients.</li>
<li> Etc.</li>
</ul>
<p>On the Internet you can find some definitions that fit the concept of biotechnology. However, it is difficult to find a definition capable of answering how biotechnology from industrial processes adds value to cosmetic products.</p>

<h3>Bed bugs</h3>
<p>The bed bugs (scienfitic name <em><a title="More info on the Wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cimex_lectularius">Cimex lectularius</a></em>) is a specie of blood-sucking insects (they feed on blood) of the order <a title="More info on the Wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemiptera"><em>Hemiptera</em></a>. This type of bug is known since ancient times, when his presence was not unusual in the world. Around the &#8217;40s in the United States, the use of insecticides like DDT (Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloroethane) served to control and eradicate this pest. However, the high toxicity of DDT led to the ban on its use and the emergence of a new family of insecticides called pyrethroids. This type of insecticide is very effective against insect pests in agricultural crops and altering domestic hegemony, but have the disadvantage of being toxic at high concentrations and develop resistance in insects.</p>

<p>The phenomenon of acquired resistance by insects, is something that bed bugs have learned and are now players in a growing plague that affects the United States, Europe and Australia since the beginning of the new millennium. The resurgence of this plague has affected very negatively the hotel market in New York, where 11% of the population suffers from these insects that don&#8217;t discriminate social classes, geographic areas, houses, apartments or hotels.</p>
<h3>Features</h3>
<p>Morphologically, an adult bed bug has the following features:</p>
<ul>
<li>Size is approximately 4 to 7 mm.</li>
<li>Has a flattened body and brown to reddish-brown with short and wide head.</li>
<li>Has a sucker-pricker mouth with 3 segments, typical blood-sucking insects.</li>
<li> Eyes well developed.</li>
<li> Segmented antennas.</li>
<li> Pronotum (dorsal exoskeletal first plate) with front margin deeply concave to accommodate the head with a size 2.5 times wider than the length in the middle.</li>
<li> Has 3 similar pairs of legs with tarsus (the last segment of the legs of insects) of 3 segments.</li>
<li>Vestigial front wings are rudimentary and therefore this bug does not fly.</li>
<li> Upper body surface sparsely covered with short golden hairs.</li>

<p>The young or adult bed bugs can survive from several weeks to several months without feeding, depending on the temperature (optimum is 21 ° C/69.8° F).</p>
<p>When bed bugs bite (an act called <em>cimicosis</em>), they inject an anticoagulant fluid that helps to get the blood they need for food. This fluid is often the main cause of irritation, inflammation and itching post-bite (allergic reaction). The bite of a bed bug has an elongated shape and is common that the bites appear aligned in arms and legs of a person, which responds to a social food-habit of this insect. The edema formed by the bite can be easily distinguished from the bites of mosquitoes, fleas or bed bugs.</p>
<p>One of the main ways to recognize the presence of these insects at home is by emitting a distinctive odor that is somewhat sweet, and the high number of dark brown spots around the places where they hide, that correspond to feces deposited.</p>

<h3>Control through biotechnology</h3>
<p>The high impact that this insect has caused to the society has been one of the main reasons for our company to  incorporate a new research area in the <strong>bio-pest control</strong>. By replication of our research method and application of biotechnology to solve this issue, we developed a product based on entomopathogenic fungi specific for <em>Cimex lectularius</em>. Our biotechnology development has the ability to penetrate the insects cuticle and kill them, spreading this effect at the same time over the bug population, thus eliminating the problem.</p>

<h3>Full House’s biotechnological development of  goes out to the world through the recent scientific collaboration agreement with Schering-Plough</h3>
<p>The <strong>V Aquaculture Fair</strong> made in Puerto Montt on October 27, 2010 was the place chosen by the executive staffs of <a title="Schering-Plough web site" href="http://www.schering-plough.com/">Schering-Plough</a>, <a title="SARH Bioindustries web site" href="http://www.biosarh.com/">SARH Bioindustries</a> and Full House, in order to sign a scientific collaboration agreement for products developed by Full House. The meeting was attended by Mr. Mario Reyes Salinas, CEO of Ful House, Mr. Cristino Strange of SARH Bioindustries and Mr. Hank Behrend of Schering-Plough, with their scientific and commercial managers team.</p>
<p>Through this way Full House is gaining ground in the world by developing its own technology. This is the case of <a title="More information about Bioshave" href="http://www.scienceformoney.com/en/products/bioshave">Bioshave</a>, another scientific achievement made by Mario Reyes and his team. This enzymatic and zootechnical additive was developed by Full House to combat parasitic <em>Saprolegnia</em>, and has been incorporated into the market through a spin off that becomes SARH Bioindustries.</p>
<p>Bioshave has all the qualities that biotech product must have, such as selectivity, efficiency, zero-traceability and environment and human health compatibility. It can combat disease caused by <em>Oomycetes Saprolegnia sp.</em>, a microorganism responsible of big commercial losses of salmonid fish in freshwater stage. Bioshave works efficiently and without violating the international health requirements that prohibit the use of antibiotics and fungicides of teratogenic nature.</p>
<p>With this step Full House continues in its commitment to biotechnology.</p>

<p>Innovation and development continues in our team: Mario Reyes has made the market entry of a new patented product with bactericidal, bacteriostatic and fungicidal properties using two living species of <em>Trichoderma</em>, together with a hydroalcoholic extract of <em>Rubus sp</em>. This innovative product helps to protect plants, soil, seeds, fruits and trees against damage from insect pests and pathogens that affect the quality and health of agricultural and ornamental crops.</p>

<h3>Usage</h3>
<p><strong>Culture:</strong> Fry-to-breeder trout, salmonidae fry-to-smolt and breeders.</p>
<p><strong>Recommended dose:</strong> 40 a 65 ml / m<sup>3</sup></p>
<p><strong>Application time:</strong> At any time of year.</p>
<h3>Mixture preparation</h3>
<ul>
<li>Shake the product before use.</li>
<li>Use plenty of water to wash the tools to be used, in order to free them from impurities and chlorine.</li>
<li>Dissolve 250 ml of Bioshave for every 10 l of water.</li>
<li>Spread the diluted product into the pool.</li>
<li>Don&#8217;t inject oxygen. Close the water flow.</li>
<li>The treatment duration is 1 hour.</li>
<li>It is suggested to open the water flow at 30 minutes post treatment, without emptying the pool.</li>
<li>Once applied, start fish feeding immediately.</li>
