Saprolegnia: a plague for the salmon industry

Saprolegnia: a plague for the salmon industry.

Next Thursday November 12, a training course will be held about “Saprolegnia: New Control Tools”. The activity will take place from 02:30 PM in the Salón Osorno at the Diego de Almagro Hotel in Puerto Montt.

The seminar will be attended by Mr. Alejandro Yáñez C., Director of the Aquaculture Biotechnology Node; Mr. Mario Reyes, Technical Director of BioSarh S. A.; Mrs. Pedro Acuña, Mr. Enrique Galleguillos, Mr. Bruno Grossi and Mrs. Nelly Díaz.

The central subject of the course will be Saprolegnia, a disease that causes huge economic losses and is considered a plague by salmon producers. The participation in the event is free and invitation is extended to all organizations related to aquaculture, research and development and general public.

This event belongs to the 2nd phase of activities developed by the Dissemination and Transfer Node in Aquaculture Biotechnology of Universidad Austral de Chile, an entity co-financed by InnovaChile of CORFO and whose aim is to strengthen biotechnological development applied to different productive sectors of the aquaculture industry.

BioSarh will launch a water bioconditioner for fish transport

October 26, 2009

Mr. Mario Reyes, Technical Director of Full House and BioSarh

Mr. Mario Reyes, Technical Director of Full House and BioSarh

Bioshield is a water bioconditioner that protects the fish mucus throughout the body, keeping gas exchange in the gills without violent CO2 increases, a substance that causes stress reactions during the transport of fish.

Mr. Mario Reyes, Technical Director of Full House and BioSarh, developed the compound with his team and said “laboratory experiments indicate that Bioshield allows the fish transport in crowded conditions without causing stress or requiring additional support oxygen. By this way, the fish does not lose energy to generate the mucus that is degraded in the acid conditions that normally occurs in water by increasing CO2 and nitrogenous wastes. Bioshield has a very high safety profile, harmless to fish and to the environment, because it is part of a biological structure. This is confirmed by tests made in laboratories of the European Union, Asia and America. “

This product, like Bioshave (zootechnical additive that converts Saprolegnia in glucose monomers) belongs to a new biotechnology products line developed by Full House for BioSarh.

Mr. Cristino Strange, General Manager of BioSarh S. A., said that Bioshield “is like a painting that can be used before or after transport of fish, and is intended to protect them from stress during handling or transporting, helping to replenish the lost mucus layer of fish in those conditions. “

Alliance

BioSarh maintains a contract with the team of Mr. Mario Reyes, which includes developments as a viral enzymatic silencer and a power converter which will increase the weight and size of fish in a short time, as explained by Mr. Pedro Acuña, Technical Support of the company.

According to the information in aqua.cl, BioSarh is a Chilean bet on cutting-edge biotechnology which is located in Bilbao 387, Puerto Montt city, telephone (56-65) 272 073. It is backed by Mr. Mario Reyes, a scientist recently awarded with the Avonni Prize in the category of Science.

For more information about this new alternative for the salmon industry sector, please contact Mr. Audelino Araneda, Manager of Sales and Services at BioSarh, email: audelino.araneda [at] gmail.com; or Mr. Pedro Acuña to email pacuna1 [at] gmail.com. Or call (56-65) 272 073.
